At around 11am the news broke that Tottenham’s on loan midfielder Rachel Furness had been by parent club Reading. A statement by Tottenham Hotspur read
“Rachel Furness has been recalled from her loan spell by Reading.
The midfielder arrived at the Club in September from the Royals and went on to make 11 appearances for us in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and Continental League Cup.
We wish Rachel all the best for the future”.

An hour later it was announced by Reading that Rachel Furness would be joining Liverpool on a permanent deal a Liverpool club statement can be found over at https://www.liverpoolfc.com/amp/news/women/380330-liverpool-fc-women-complete-signing-of-rachel-furnessWhat now for Tottenham?
Personally I believe this is a huge blow for Tottenham, Rachel Furness was scrappy with a never give up attitudebecame a instant hit with the Tottenham fans. Furness also gave Tottenham a much needed toughness and technical balance in midfield alongside Josie Green and Chloe Peplow so the question is what now? Do Tottenham sign someone new or do they push forward with what they already have?
Personally I believe Tottenham have enough talent to push forward and do not need need sign anyone else, YES losing Furness is a massive blow and she will be missed but with a few rearrangements Tottenham can put in a 2nd half of the season as impressive as the 1st half. Let’s not get confused here we would all love to see Tottenham finish high up the table but the objective for this year is to just survive no matter what. No one wants to be the team that gets promoted and regulated a year later. So far Tottenham have proved that that can hold their own and can kick it with the professionals.
Tottenham have a few options do they go ahead and sign someone to cover or do they play Ria Percival in the position alongside Josie Green and Chloe Peplow or do the coaches try changing the formation to accommodate a new style of play?
Personally I would like to see Tottenham stick with the 4-3-3 for now and maybe play Gemma Davidson in midfield to replace Rachel Furness and play either Angela Addison or Lucy Quinn down the wing. In an ideal world Lucy Quinn and Angela Addison would play but the team if full of so many talented players that there is so much competition In every position meaning that no one’s position is safe. In the end we as fans need to trust in the coaches and in the club and I for one have faith in coaches and have hope that we will keep holding our own this season and with a little luck will remain in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League for a 2nd year.

Filling the gap.
So what now? Who replaces Rachel Furness? I have no idea what Karen and Juan have planned for the 2nd half of the season and we can just guess what they coaches will do but the reality is we have to wait and see what they do against Manchester City on January 5th.Tottenham have a few options do they go ahead and sign someone to cover or do they play Ria Percival in the position alongside Josie Green and Chloe Peplow or do the coaches try changing the formation to accommodate a new style of play?

Final thoughts.
Finally I want to wish Rachel Furness all the best at Liverpool, I know as a Tottenham women’s team fan she will be missed but we have to move on and think about Manchester City and the the 2nd half of the season. Tottenham need us to get to the Hive London and keep showing our support for these Inspirational women as there is still a lot of football to be played and need everyone out there on Sundays showing theirs support and spurring on these ladies.Ticketing.
